Purified compressed air is needed for many different downstream applications, such as in the food industry or as breathing air. After compression, it must be freed of unwanted substances such as water vapor and oil vapors. The quality of compressed air is classified according to the ISO 8573-1 standard. Compressed air is often dehumidified immediately after compression using cyclone water separators, refrigeration dryers, membrane dryers or adsorption dryers. Suitable activated carbon adsorbers are used for oil removal. These adsorbers come in different shapes and sizes, and a wide range of activated carbon qualities are used.
