Environmental persistent pharmaceutical pollutants are an upcoming task for wastewater treatment and water treatment plants. Due to further developed analysis methods, these micropollutants can be detected in an increasingly differentiated manner. With the usual technical wastewater treatment processes, some substances cannot be removed in a targeted manner and often only to a small extent and thus end up in the environment. They decompose very slowly or not at all. The effects of such trace substances and the resulting interactions on ecosystems and organisms cannot currently be foreseen.

Alongside other technologies it is possible to adsorb EPPP on activated carbon and two processes in the fourth treatment stage  are common:

– Fixed bed process with granulated activated carbon

– Powder activated carbon process

Due to their pore structure, UNICARB® activated carbons are ideal for various applications in EPPP removal.
